We asked Julion to answer a few questions regarding
his experience as a Student Manager:
1. How is your student manager experience preparing you to be a future leader of sport?
My experience is allowing me to learn and grow at a level that will allow me to better understand the game of basketball and build relationships that will last a lifetime as a future coach.
2. How did you become a Student Manager?
I remember watching a pick up game in the athletic center on campus and one kids talent stood out. I complimented his game and he thanked me, later on on our conversation, I found out he was a manager and told him how passionate I was of becoming a manager! The rest is history.
3. Who are the key mentors or role models in your life?
In the world of basketball I have only two! One is Coach K of Duke! His philosophy on discipline and excellence has always been a beacon for me to strive towards! His passion for the game and character is one i try and model myself after! My second is Coach Scott Sutton of Oral Roberts University! Coach Sutton is all about hard work and toughness! It's a sin if you go a day in practice without hearing something about working hard and player being tough! I have tried taken on those traits as a manager. Someone who is hard working, always looking to get the job done and someone who is tough, pushing through adversity and some of the struggles that balancing college and managing bring! Coach Sutton is a caring individual who treats everyone the same. He is easy to communicate with and loves to have fun, on and off the court. From what I have observed, he is a great father and mentor who has the highest respect from anyone who knows him!
4. What is the most rewarding part of your position?
The most rewarding part of my job is the relationships that you build!
