This is our first installment of a new MOAM Blog Series focused on highlighting current Student Managers on the path to becoming a future leader of sport.
Name: Bryan Carson
School: Virginia Tech
Sport(s) Managing: Football
Number of years as a Student Manager: 2 years
We asked Bryan to answer a few questions regarding his experience as a Student Manager:
1. How is your student manager experience preparing you to be a future leader of sport?
My student manager experience is helping me to become a future leader because of the work ethics I learn and the social skills I have received by having to meet and interact with so many new, and different people each and everyday.
2. How did you become a Student Manager?
My high school football coach, Bryan Still, told me he had an awesome job opportunity for me if I wanted to interview and work for the football team.
3. What has been the biggest adjustment to life as a student manager?
Time Management. You really have to work hard to get your school work done, and put the long hours in for practice everyday.
4. What is one thing no one understands about your position?
No one understands how much work goes in behind the scenes of any sport. I sure did not know how much work goes into every single game, practice, and off day. It is truly unbelievable the amount of work that goes into big sporting events and how it goes so unnoticed.
