Managers On A Mission (MOAM) is excited to formally announce the 2014 MOAM Mini-Missionaries. Three Student Managers will embark on the first Managers On A Mission funded mission trips in June. Managers On A Mission has teamed up with The Rafiki Foundation to send the mini-missionaries to the country of Malawi. Managers On A Mission can not thank our long list of supporters and sponsors enough for their generous donations over the past year. These donations have made the funding of the 2014 Mission Trips possible. We are pleased to present our 2014 Missionaries, who each answered three questions for us regarding their upcoming Mission Trip: ![]() Justin Kelly School: Mississippi State Manager For: Football 1. What has prepared you for this mission experience? This will be my second mission trip to go on. My first was this past spring break. A college group from church and I went to a children's home in Mexico. The experience was amazing. The kids there were orphans or their parents couldn't financially support them. Still they were the most fun loving kids I have ever met. Knowing that they had so little from a worldly standpoint, but still had so much joy changed my life. The stories of what these kids have been through was mind blowing. I think that from seeing this over spring break it will help me understand a little bit about what the kids in Africa might be going through. 2. Who do you believe has been most instrumental in preparing you for this mission experience? I think that some of my friends have helped me get ready for this experience. I have been so lucky to have met some great godly men and women. They really push me to be the best Christian I can be. A few of them have been to different parts of Africa for missions and told me about the times that they had while they were there. 3. What are you most looking forward to gaining from the mission trip experience? I mainly want to come back and continue to thank God for all he has given me. I know that here in America we get caught up on worldly possessions, but it shouldn't be that way. We have it pretty easy compared to other places like Malawi. Just have to remember that this world is not our home. While I'm here though I want to praise God all the way. ![]() Meredith Holder School: Wake Forest Manager For: Field Hockey 1. What has prepared you for this mission experience? I have grown up in a Christian home and have always been involved in church activities. That being said, my church has done mission outreach close to home. I have also gone on one other short-term international mission trip to El Salvador earlier in college. I was able to work in medical and dental clinics for the people in very poor villages. I was also able to help serve in a children's ministry while I was there. For the upcoming trip, I have reflected back on those experiences and how God was able to use me through service and I have spent time in prayer trying to prepare my heart to serve. I attended Rafiki training last month and being involved with so many others with the same interest really jump-started everything. 2. Who do you believe has been most instrumental in preparing you for this mission experience? My past experience in the mission field and the Rafiki training have both been instrumental in preparing me for this mission experience. Being surrounded by so many people who love the Lord and who want to serve has helped prepare my heart and fill my soul. My friends and family have also been very supportive in preparations and prayer. My position as a student manager has been very important as well. I have had to learn how to be responsible, a team player and how to think on my feet. All of these skills will be valuable on this trip. 3. What are you most looking forward to gaining from the mission trip experience? I am looking forward to leaving Malawi as a changed person. I want the Lord to do huge things in not only the lives of the people I will be serving but in my own as well. I believe that the Lord can use these experiences to strengthen a relationship with Him and other believers and that, to me, is the most important part. I am also looking forward to helping out in the villages to help the children learn how to create better lives for themselves. The work that Rafiki has done and is continuing to do is nothing short of unbelievable and I am so blessed and honored to be able to take part in their ministry. ![]() Michael Carpenter School: Virginia Manager For: Men's Basketball, Soccer 1. What has prepared you for this mission experience? I have been on two missions trips with members of my Christian Fellowship, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship at the University of Virginia, both to Miami, and Puerto Supe Peru. I have seen the power that Missions Trips can have, both by God using us in the interactions and works between our group and a community, as well as the way in which the community transforms us and helps us grow, for the better. 2. Who do you believe has been most instrumental in preparing you for this mission experience? I would like to thank My Christian Fellowship Chi Alpha whom God used to pursue me, and whom God used to help me establish a relationship with Jesus Christ, a Devotional Life, and a call for the lost. Specific Thanks to my core group leaders, the people in the fellowship, and the fellowships leaders Josh Moran, and Pete Bullette I would also like to thank the entirety of the University of Virginia Basketball staff for being open about who Jesus was to me early on when I was a non-believer. If it wasn't for them, and their intentionality, I would not be here. Especially I would like to thank Head Coach Tony Bennett, Associate Head Coach Ritchie McKay, Director of Basketball Operations Brad Soucie, Assistant Athletic Director for Basketball Administration Ronnie Wideman, and Special Assistant Katherine Palmer. When I first began to explore Christianity during my Second Year at UVa, Coach Bennett found out that I had just gone to a Chi Alpha retreat. There was alot of pressure on the program at the time as we were on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament. In that pressure, Coach Bennett took the time to pull me and two other managers aside after practice. He said that we had made the "best decisions" that we could have made in our lives, and that we were on our way to something greater than this world. He emphasized that Managers coming to Christ Jesus, and starting a relationship with the Savior of the World, were much greater things to him than winning games, and worldly accolades which most people in this world in the sporting industry care about. In an industry that is so focused on winning, it is great to have someone like Coach Bennett, and I am so thankful that I got to know him for four amazing years. 3. What are you most looking forward to gaining from the mission trip experience? I am most excited to bring Jesus to those whom do not know him, and to continue to grow in my faith on the trip. I am also looking forward to interacting with the youth, especially in regards playing sports with them. Sports were a huge part of my testimony, and if it wasn't for people in the sport industry, I would not be here. Lastly an important goal for me on my past Missions Trips, was to be a" Light for Christ" wherever I went. If you have this kind of Mindset, you can accomplish so much for the Kingdom of God and its growth! Fundraising for the 2015 Managers On A Mission Mission Trips is already underway.
