Liberia Update - Brianne Adcock

As the days approached to embarking on a trip of a lifetime to Monrovia, Liberia to share not only sports, but love towards the children of the Rafiki Village… my emotions were overwhelming with excitement! Before taking off on the first plane for the day, I found a note from my mother from when I was little in one of my devotionals that had the verse Isaiah 41:10 written on it which says, “Fear not for I am with you; Be not dismayed for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

When we finally arrived in the Rafiki Village, our team sat in on their morning village devotional in the dining hall. What took me off guard was when I got to hear the children worshiping together and their voices sounding as one united. I felt at that moment that I knew God was going to move and use me in ways I could never imagine! While being here in the Rafiki Village, our team is in charge of leading three devotionals before sport lessons. The first week, my topic was based around purpose. The verse I focused on was Romans 8:28 which says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” I shared about my purpose in life and how God called me to coaching and share the love and passion I have for the sport of basketball. I had others things throughout my life that I thought was my purpose from God, but He had other plans for me. I told the children that even though I had everything I ever wanted, something was still missing from my life. I felt God call me to “go”, but I didn’t know where or when, until God sent Seth Ralston in my direction.

This was the missing purpose God had in store for me all along. To help me reach outside of my comfort zone and embrace my calling of coaching in new ways, ways you could never imagine. I am becoming a stronger Christ centered leader both on and off the playing field and driving to seek Him even more. It’s honestly amazing to see how God uses individuals throughout life, even when they least expect it (Luke 19:10; John 1:15; and Acts 26: 17-18). The love these children showcase daily for God is truly breath-taking! I’ve never seen a group of kids so positive about life, even though their background stories may tell a different story. God is doing wonderful things here at the Liberia Rafiki Village! Even though it’s approaching the end of week two, I can testify that I’m not the same person I was when I left the states and will be returning as a “NEW” sister and disciple of Christ throughout the rest of my life!
